Disaster Recovery Fund Update

The Disaster Recovery Fund has been open to donations for over a week now, and the results have been phenomenal! Over $70,000 dollars have been raised in this short amount of time. The response from the people in the communities in and around Starved Rock Country has been incredible and inspiring, to say the least. Although we have come a long way in a short amount of time, the recovery journey is just beginning.

Mayor Bob Eschbach and Mayor James Rick are convening to appoint a group of professionals in their respective fields to discern how the money in the Disaster Recovery Fund will be dispersed to those in need in the effected communities. The assessments will be made through an application process. More information on how to go about how to obtain an application will be available in the coming weeks.

We also still have a campaign open through Schwan’s-cares that is gaining some steam. All the information needed about this wonderful campaign that gives 20% of all sales in this area to the Disaster Recovery Fund can be found here, where you can also buy items and contribute if you wish.

We can’t thank the donors and contributors enough for their generosity and the sense of community and giving everyone has been perpetuating since the tornadoes hit Ottawa, Naplate and other parts of Starved Rock Country. Although our recovery efforts are just beginning, it is wonderful knowing so many of you out there are willing to help in these times of need.
