On May 20, 2017, the Illinois Valley Regional Airport in Peru, Illinois will present the 2nd annual reunion of TBM Avengers and other various aircraft, both military and civilian. The TBM Avenger is a World War Il torpedo bomber, and at least 15 of these magnificent aircrafts will be traveling to Peru from all over the country. The Tribute to Veterans will again be free and open to the public. More than 10,000 spectators, pilots, crews and volunteers are expected to attend.
Simply stated, your help is needed. Event planners are seeking more than 250 volunteers for the weekend, beginning Friday evening, May 19, when volunteers must attend a mandatory training meeting at the Airport. Saturday, May 20, volunteers are needed from 7am to 8pm, in 4-hour shifts, for help with parking; assisting veterans, senior and others to and from the parking area to the seating area; assisting professional “marshalls” who guide the planes while airplanes are moving to and from runways; food service; and general miscellaneous duties, including clean-up activities after the event closes Saturday afternoon.
Volunteers must be at least age 16. All volunteers will receive a commemorative event shirt. Please consider donating your time and talent to this meaningful event to honor our military veterans. For more information, and/or to register as a volunteer, please contact Airport/Midwest AvTech @ 815-223-2003.
In addition to volunteers, donations of any size are needed. Fuel, food, lodging and other necessities for the Avengers, their pilots and support teams, as well as everything is takes to put on this spectacular event will exceed $100,000. Please send your contribution to the Starved Rock Country Community Foundation, 718 Columbus St., Ottawa, IL 61350, or visit www.srccf.org to make an online donation. You will receive a receipt for your tax-deductible donation directly from the Foundation. You can reach the Foundation by calling 815-252-2906.
Please mark your calendar now, register to volunteer and donate generously to once again show not only the aviation community, but the entire Midwest that the Illinois Valley is a great place to visit, by car and by plane! Our entire community will appreciate your support.
